Attack Types

Dungeon Defenders 2 has a brand new system for damage. Overall, there are two types of damage:

Special Elementals

Various damage types also can apply any of 5 special elemental effects, which are used for finishing combos:

Attack Combos

A "Combo" in Dungeon Defenders 2 has two phases, the starter and the finisher.

Combo Start

The "start" of the combo is started by either a Hero Defense or Hero Ability that applies a special debuff of some sort. This debuff has its own, separate properties. Certain Environmental Traps can also be used to start certain combos.

Combo Finish

The "Finish" of the combo is instigated by a special elemental effect taken by an enemy. These "Finisher's" do not apply debuffs themselves, it is simply dealing damage that activates the combo. This means that attacks that deal "Storm" damage can Electrocute enemies that are Drenched, and attacks that deal "Fire" damage can ignite Oiled enemies. Elemental Bonus Damage on Weapons can apply theses special elemental effects too, as can some Environmental Traps (such as from Falling).

Status Combo finishers

It should be noted that the finishers "Fire" and "Storm" simply refer to the damage dealt to the target with the Combo Beginner. It doesn't matter if it's from a tower or a hero.
