Tinkering was created by the brilliant Professor Proteus, a renowned genius. He adapted gear to have Mods to them.

Overview

Tinkering is a process that allows for the transfer of Mods from one item to another. Mods can be transferred between items of the same type, such as helmets to helmets, weapons to weapons, and relics to relics. It is important to exercise caution when transferring a mod from a lower Chaos tier item to a higher Chaos tier item, as it will result in the loss of any progression in the mod's stat, while the mod retains its level.

Before Tinkering, it is highly recommended to upgrade your mod's item to match the chaos tier of your equipment. However, for items at Chaos tiers C8, C9, or C10, upgrading is not necessary due to the mod cap at C8.

Professor Proteus

Also known as "The Tinkerer", Professor Sebastian Proteus serves as the Non Playable Character (NPC) that allows us to transfer mods. Professor Proteus can be found to the left of the Blacksmith in the Tavern or, alternatively, by proceeding right in Town.

Cost

The Tinkering process consumes Defender Medals or Gems, various Hammers (Plain, Shiny, Pristine, or Exquisite), and the corresponding upgrade material (e.g., Plain Leather, Pristine Quills). The Hammers and upgrade material must match the chaos tier of the item being tinkered (e.g., C7 Weapons require Pristine Ingots, C3 Relics necessitate Plain Clusters).

It is important to note that the item on the left will be destroyed unless you use a Goblin Item Insurance.

Locked Mods

Certain mods are locked and cannot be transferred. These mods have unique items, and most of them are ring and weapon mods (except Snake Skin). You can identify them by the padlock icon located at the top right corner of the mod.

Notes

  • Tinkering is not possible if the item on the right side already contains the mod.
  • Each item can only have one Boom Mod (e.g., melee-boom, gobsplosion chip) and one elemental mod (e.g, fire chip, fire servo).
  • Tinkering an item will bind it to you, making it no longer tradable.
  • You can tinker up to 3 mods at the same time, meaning you have to spend 3 times the initial price.
