A Weak Point is essentially an extra hitbox on (generally) heads of various enemies where extra damage will be taken from headshots dealt by a ranged hero. This damage system is only what Exploit Weakness Chips are effective in.

Some key points

  • Base weak point damage bonus is 50%.
  • Defenses cannot hit weakpoints.
  • The rears of Goblin Siege Rollers and Lord Malakai does not count as weakpoints.
  • The hitbox location aren't always consistently right at the head which makes aiming finicky.
  • Generally, any new enemies introduced from 2021 (Going Wild West Update) onwards does not have any Weak Point hitbox. Death Weavers, Elder Wyverns, War Party, Windshapers, Stone Wolf, Lava Bugs, Lava Beast, Genie King, Lord Malakai, Phoenix etc. are examples.

Integration within the game

DD2 unfortunately did a very poor job introducing this damage system in-game with the only obscure hint shown in the icon of the Soft Spot Mutator (a goblin with an enlarged head). Furthermore, the weakness of Goblin Siege Rollers and Lord Malakai exacerbates players' assumptions on what or where exactly is a weak point adding more fuel to the overall confusion.

With the evidence of recent enemies no longer containing the extra hitbox, there seems to be no further plans for expanding this damage system.
