== Protean Shift Update ==
As of the Protean Shift update, gear upgrades are performed within the player's inventory. There are 4 cores to upgrading gear: Upgrading, Evolving, Advancing, and Tinkering.<br />
===Upgrading===
This process is for increasing the base stats of the item such as Hero Damage, Defense Health, etc. This process consumes [[Gold]] or [[Defender Medals]] as well as the respective item upgrade material. An exhaustive list of these materials can be found in [[Tinker Materials]].
===Evolving===
This process is for advancing gear to the next Chaos level. This is useful to preserve rare mods or items with high base stats. This process consume [[Gold]] or [[Defender Medals]] as well as the respective item upgrade material.
===Advancing===
This process is for advancing gear to the next rarity level. It consumes a number of Ampoules which are the same tier as the item.
===Tinkering===
This process is for transferring M.O.D.S from one item to another. Beware, transferring a mod from a lower Chaos tier item to a higher Chaos tier item will mean that you lose any growth of the mod's stat. This process consumes [[Defender Medals]] or [[Gems]].
