Upgrading is a way for players to increase the stats of their gear by using Gold or Defender Medals. The upgrade system has been changed in the Trials Update to allow upgrading from within the inventory.

Mechanics

The Upgrade menu can be opened by CTRL + LClick on the item. Only Shards, Armor, Weapons and Rings can be upgraded. Each item can usually be upgraded numerous times. Gear and relics can be upgraded up to 10 times and rings can be upgraded up to 50 times.

For Shards, the max upgrade level varies between each shard.

Protean Shift Update

As of the Protean Shift update, gear upgrades are performed within the player's inventory. There are 5 cores to upgrading gear: Upgrading, Evolving, Advancing, Rerolling and Tinkering.

  • This process is for increasing the base stats of the item such as Hero Damage, Defense Health, etc. This process consumes Gold or Defender Medals, along with motes from the chaos tier of the current item. Additionally, it could require the respective upgrade material and ampoules from the chaos level of the item. An exhaustive list of these materials can be found in Crafting Materials. Uniquely, boots require Plain, Shiny, or Pristine leather when advancing from 9/10 to 10/10 on the item. Cost of upgrading depends on class of item (e.g. helmet, boots etc). It does not depend on the item's rarity.

Notes

  • The primary stat of your item can be rerolled as well, it costs Talismans which are the same chaos tier as your item.
  • The 286th reroll is guaranteed to be 10/10, it works accross all mods. Otherwise, there isn't a guaranteed 10/10 roll when rerolling the primary stat of your item.

  • This process is for transferring M.O.D.S from one item to another. Beware, transferring a mod from a lower Chaos tier item to a higher Chaos tier item will mean that you lose any growth of the mod's stat. This process consumes Defender Medals or Gems.
