Costumes are different visual skins that are available for your heroes instead of using the Standard Garbs. They can be equipped through the Seamstress at the Emporium in the Tavern/Town Hub or through the Cosmetics section which can be accessed through the player's inventory. Along with Accessories, Flairs and Tower Skins, they make up DD2's cosmetics system.
All costumes have minimum an accessory to fill in each accessory slot.

Acquiring Costumes
Most costumes are acquired through premium currency (gems) is currently one of the ways Chromatic Games (formerly Trendy Entertainment) hopes to make money through DD2 which is a Free-to-Play game. As such in order to avoid a pay-to-win scenario, costumes are only cosmetic, affecting animations and graphics but not providing stat benefits.
- There are also certain costumes that is alternatively obtainable through buying certain DLCs, though its content may vary.
What Does Costumes Provides
Each costumes provides a unique visual card for your deck and accessories that makes the character different. However, those accessories cannot be mixed between other costumes' accessories. Some costumes have multiple accessories for certain slots that you can switch between for unique looks, hence the same costume may look different in certain configurations.
Certain costumes does provide unique healing, death, victory or spawn animations instead of regular ones.
Costume Themes
Costumes that are thematic may denote an event and/or a fashion collection. There are different themes available for the current heroes. However, not all themes currently have costumes available for all heroes.
There are currently 8 themes that are available to purchase or obtainable from defender packs.
- The Awakening Costumes
- Dragonfall Carnival Costumes
- Burning Souls Skeletons Costumes
- Shadow Costumes
- Galaxy Costumes
- Permafrost Costumes
- Jade Guardian Costumes
- Plexus Costumes
However, there is two themes that is only available during seasonal periods.
- Grave Danger Skeletons Costumes (Halloween)
- Humbug Holiday Costumes (Winter Event)
These are also themes that are exclusive as they signify past events (available only at that particular time) or other circumstances. Those will never be available ever again as to not break the promise on them being Limited Editions or being exclusive to that event.
- Dragonfall Defender Costumes (Defense Council/Collectors Edition)
- Survivor Costumes (Wipeageddon 2015)
- Gold Plated Costumes (DDA Kickstarter Backer rewards)
- Crystallized Costumes (DDA Kickstarter Backer rewards)
Acquiring Costumes for Cheaper Prices
Waiting for Costume Sales
There may be some periods where a selection of costumes goes on sale, with a price reduction of up to 50% off. However, such periods are infrequent as whether they do happen or not are entirely up to Chromatic Games' discretion.
Buying Costume Bundles
Costume bundles provides a selection of costumes at a reduced cost compared to buying them individually They will always be available to purchase at any time.
While bundles that contains bundle-exclusive costumes do not have individual costs to compare to, they will still provide a very good value compared to other bundles of similar prices or buying other individual costumes.
